The Just In Time Approach

Toyota Company employs the just-in-time method in their production processes. The company ensures that all the necessary raw materials are on the production floor until they receive an order from the customers (Chiarini, Baccarani & Mascherpa, 2018). The company ensures that only essential components required in the production process are made available at the production point. The approach allows the company to adapt and respond quickly to the customer’s demand. Furthermore, it facilitates effective inventory management by eliminating the possibility of excess production.

The JIT approach has promoted the company’s competitiveness by ensuring accurate forecast in the stock raw materials, which ensures continuous availability of the required resources for production. Furthermore, the reduced excesses eliminate wastes and so reduce the cost of production. Low cost of production enables the company to offers its products at a lower price, thus enhancing competitiveness. Furthermore, the company uses JIT to produce vehicles based on the consumers’ specifications. The approach enhances operational and supply chain efficiency in the company since the car design must be developed accordingly, considering that there are no alternatives parts to use in the fitting.

The lean philosophy focuses on waste minimization and improved operational efficiency. The Toyota Company’s production processes were initially characterized by large batch production that resulted in huge inventories. Secondly, the company also preferred a large production method over the customers’ preferences and choices (Teich & Fady, 2017). However, through a strategic approach, the company identified the consumers’ value and focused on meeting the needs and preferences rather than producing quantity. The just-in-time method was introduced as part of the change process that saw the company pursue perfection and reduce all possible forms of wastes in the production line.
