Hi, thank you for your post. It is interesting to learn about atezolizumab, one of the medications used to treat cancer. Cancer is characterized by abnormal cell growth (Legrand et al., 2018). The cells may be localized in one region or even spread to other parts. The medication acts by binding to the programmed cell death receptor 1 or the PD-ligand eventually reducing the inhibition of the immune response. The medication is used to treat hepatocellular carcinoma, non-small cell lung cancer, and triple-negative breast cancer among others. On the other hand, it is important that you highlighted the problem with the medication. The effectiveness of the treatment intervention is based on the minimal side effects it causes. As a result, the medication may not be suitable for people with colitis and pneumonitis.

Various interventions are being worked on to improve the efficacy of cancer diseases. Also, could there be a way where the medications are designed to target the cancerous cells only? Commonly, the cancer medications target the actively dividing cells and this could result in the destruction of other normal cells such as the hair cells leading to alopecia. Also, the dose administration must be carefully determined to minimize the adverse reactions in the patients (Hopkins et al., 2021). Patients with cancer suffer both physical and emotional health problems and that is why the healthcare providers must be comprehensive in determining their health needs, the possible drug reactions, genetic and cultural factors, and emotional wellbeing to determine the best treatment option. The study by Tie et al. (2019) confirms the effectiveness of the atezolizumab in treating cancer because of the minimal risk profile.
